On the K2XX Sierra this is one of the easiest jobs on the truck — the filter sits in the right side of the HVAC case behind the glove box, and on most trucks you only need a flashlight and your hands. Drop the glove box, pop the access door, fold the long filter out, fold the new one in with the arrow pointing the same direction.
The catch is that GM did not fit a cabin filter to every 2014-2018 Sierra 1500. Plenty of WT and base SLE trucks have a molded, blanked-off slot instead of an access door, and fitting a filter means carefully cutting that slot open with a utility knife. Check what you have before you order parts, and if you are cutting, keep the blade shallow — the evaporator core is right behind the plastic.

Tool sizes and filter part number do not change between the 4.3 V6, 5.3 L83 and 6.2 L86 — the HVAC case is shared across the whole 2014-2018 Sierra 1500 range, including single-zone manual and dual-zone automatic climate control. The only real difference across the generation is trim level: base trucks are more likely to have the blanked slot with no filter installed, while SLT/Denali trucks normally have the factory filter and access door.

The filter location (right end of the HVAC case behind the glove box), the ACDelco CF188 / GM 22759208 application and the blanked-slot issue on non-filter trucks are well established for the 2014-2018 K2XX; the only fasteners involved are 7 mm or #2 Phillips glove box screws, so verify which your trim uses and check the airflow arrow on the old element before pulling it.
Not necessarily. Many base and mid-trim trucks were built with the HVAC case slot blanked off and no element fitted. Drop the glove box and look for a removable access door at the right end of the case — if you only see a smooth panel with a molded outline, your truck has no filter and you can retrofit one.
ACDelco CF188, GM part 22759208, or equivalent aftermarket numbers such as Fram CF11966 and Wix 24199. Charcoal-activated versions are available and fit the same slot.
The arrow points in the direction air is moving through the case — down and inboard, away from you as you face the slot. Photograph the old filter before pulling it; on a retrofit with no old filter to copy, point the arrow into the case.
Every 22,500 miles or about 2 years is the usual GM guidance, but cut that in half if you drive gravel roads, tow in dust, or park under trees. A musty smell or weak vent airflow is the practical signal.
