On the E210 Corolla, Toyota kept the cabin filter dead simple: it lives in a tray behind the glovebox, and you get to it by unclipping the glovebox damper arm and squeezing the two side stops so the box drops down. No screws, no sockets, no panel removal. A flashlight and patient fingers are genuinely all you need, and a full change takes about fifteen minutes the first time.
It's identical across the 1.8 2ZR-FAE, 2.0 M20A-FKS and the hybrid, and across sedan and hatchback. The two things people get wrong: forcing the glovebox stops and cracking a tab, and fitting the new filter with the airflow arrow up instead of down. Look at the arrow on the old element before you bin it, then match it.
