The E210 Corolla has no transmission dipstick. Draining is easy; getting the level right is the whole job. On the 1.8 and 2.0 non-hybrid cars, the K120 Direct Shift-CVT uses a drain plug with an overflow tube inside it, so you refill through a side fill port, then run the engine until the fluid hits 40-45 C and let the excess spill out of the tube. Hybrids use a conventional eCVT transaxle where you simply put back exactly what you took out, with the car level.
The two things people get wrong: using the wrong fluid (CVT Fluid FE for the K120, ATF WS for the hybrid transaxle — they are not interchangeable), and setting the level with only the front of the car in the air. Also crack the fill plug loose before you touch the drain plug. A seized fill plug on a drained transaxle turns a two-hour job into a tow.

The 1.8 L 2ZR-FAE and 2.0 L M20A-FKS both use the K120 CVT, so tools and fluid are identical between them: 24 mm outer plug, 6 mm hex overflow tube, Toyota CVT Fluid FE, and the warm-idle overflow level procedure. The hybrid's P610/P710 transaxle uses a 24 mm drain and 24 mm fill plug, Toyota ATF WS, a smaller refill quantity, and no overflow-tube level set. Manual-transmission Corolla hatchbacks (6MT) are a different job entirely, using 75W gear oil and a hex-head fill/drain.

Plug sizes on the E210 follow standard Toyota practice (24 mm outer drain/overflow and fill plugs, 6 mm hex inner overflow tube on the K120 CVT), but plug locations and refill quantities vary between the K120 CVT and the hybrid P610/P710, so confirm the plug sizes, exact capacity and all torque values against the Toyota repair manual for your VIN before you start.
Toyota lists the K120 CVT fluid as a lifetime fill with no normal-service interval, and only specifies inspection under special operating conditions. Most techs who work on these recommend a drain and fill every 50,000-60,000 miles, sooner if you tow, do heavy stop-and-go, or drive in extreme heat.
