On the 10th-gen Accord the serpentine belt job is more about access than about the belt itself. Both turbo engines use one short belt running the alternator and A/C compressor off the crank pulley, with a self-adjusting spring tensioner, so there is nothing to measure or adjust. The catch is that the belt lives behind the passenger-side wheel and inner fender liner, so the real work is pulling a wheel and a dozen 10 mm bolts and plastic clips before you ever touch a pulley.

What varies is the engine. The 1.5T and 2.0T take different belts, so order by VIN rather than by year. The hybrid takes no belt at all. The mistake people make most often is not verifying the belt is fully seated in every groove before lowering the car — a belt sitting one rib off will chirp, shred and throw itself within a few miles. Differences within the 2018-2022 generation

1.5T (L15BE) and 2.0T (K20C4) use the same tool sizes — 19 mm lugs, 10 mm/8 mm liner fasteners, 14 mm tensioner pulley bolt — but the belts are different lengths and rib counts, so match the part to the VIN. The 2.0L Accord Hybrid (LFA) has no accessory drive belt, no tensioner and no alternator, so no tools apply.

How the job goes

  1. Park on level ground, set the parking brake (electric on most trims — no service mode needed for this job), chock the rear wheels, and let the engine cool.
  2. Break the right front lug nuts loose with the 19 mm socket and breaker bar while the wheel is still on the ground.
  3. Jack the right front corner at the factory pinch-weld point and set a jack stand under the reinforced jack point. Remove the wheel.
  4. Remove the 10 mm bolts, 8 mm screws and plastic push clips holding the right front inner fender liner and, on most trims, the front section of the under-tray. Pull the liner out or fold it back far enough to see the crank pulley, alternator and A/C compressor.
  5. Photograph the belt routing before you touch anything, and compare it to the routing decal if your car has one. The layout is simple (crank, tensioner, alternator, A/C) but confirm which side of the tensioner the belt rides.
  6. Fit the 14 mm socket on the tensioner pulley center bolt with a long ratchet or belt tool. Rotate the tensioner arm to compress the spring — go in the direction that visibly moves the arm away from the belt; do not force it the wrong way.
  7. Holding tension released, slip the belt off the smoothest accessible pulley (usually the alternator or the tensioner itself), then let the tensioner return gently. Work the old belt out through the wheel well.
  8. Inspect each pulley: spin the tensioner and any idler by hand feeling for roughness or noise, check the crank pulley damper for separation, and look for oil or coolant on the grooves. Replace the tensioner now if it is not smooth.
  9. Compare the new belt side by side with the old one for length and rib count. Clean any debris out of the pulley grooves.
  10. Route the new belt onto every pulley except the last one — leave the tensioner or alternator for last — and use a zip tie to keep it seated on the crank pulley if it wants to fall off.
  11. Release the tensioner again with the 14 mm socket, slip the belt over the final pulley, and slowly let the tensioner take up the slack.
  12. Check with a mirror and light that the belt is centered and fully seated in every groove, with no rib riding on an edge. This is the step people skip and it destroys a new belt in minutes.
  13. Reinstall the fender liner and under-tray, replacing any broken clips. Refit the wheel, lower the car, and torque the lug nuts to 80 ft-lb (108 Nm) in a star pattern.
  14. Start the engine, turn the A/C on and off, and listen for chirp or squeal. Shut it off and re-check belt seating after a short drive.

Watch out

Wheel and body fastener sizes (19 mm lugs, 10 mm and 8 mm liner fasteners) and the 14 mm tensioner pulley bolt are standard across this generation's turbo engines, but confirm the tensioner bolt size on your car and get the belt by VIN, since 1.5T and 2.0T belts differ; torque values other than the lug nuts should be checked in the factory service information.
