On the 10th-gen Accord the alternator itself is only two bolts and a power cable; the time goes into getting to it. The unit sits low on the front of the engine, so you lift the right front corner, pull the lower splash shield and usually part of the inner fender liner, then release the single serpentine belt with a 14 mm tensioner tool. Most people find it easiest to feed the alternator out downward through the wheel well rather than from the top.
The big thing owners get wrong is assuming the Hybrid has an alternator. It does not โ MG1 in the two-motor transaxle handles charging through the DC-DC converter, so a "bad alternator" on a Hybrid is really a 12 V battery, converter, or hybrid-system diagnosis. The second common mistake is over-torquing the mounting bolts into aluminum, or cranking the B+ nut until the stud twists. Both are easy to avoid with a torque wrench and a light hand.
| Item | Type | |

| Lug nut socket 19 mm, 1/2 in drive, thin-wall impact type Removes the right front wheel for side access on cars where the belt tensioner is easier reached through the fender. | Required | shop |
| Floor jack 2-ton minimum Lifts the front of the car at the pinch-weld or subframe jacking point. | Required | shop |
| Jack stands 2-ton pair Supports the car while you work under the front end. | Safety | shop |
| Wheel chocks Keeps the car from rolling with the front wheels off the ground. | Safety | shop |
| Plastic trim/clip removal tool Nylon pry set Pops the plastic rivet clips holding the lower engine splash shield and inner fender liner. | Required | shop |
| Phillips screwdriver #2, stubby and standard Several splash shield and fender liner screws are Phillips-head plastic screws. | Required | shop |
| Serpentine belt tensioner tool Long-handled belt tool with 14 mm socket / 1/2 in square drive Rotates the automatic tensioner arm to release belt tension; the pulley bolt is 14 mm. | Required | shop |
| Breaker bar 1/2 in drive, 18-24 in Alternative to the belt tool for swinging the tensioner if you have clear access from above. | Recommended | shop |
| 12 mm socket 12 mm, 3/8 in drive, 6-point Upper/smaller alternator mounting bolt (M8) and bracket hardware. | Required | shop |
| 14 mm socket 14 mm, 3/8 in drive, 6-point Main alternator through-bolt (M10) and tensioner pulley bolt. | Required | shop |
| Combination wrench set 10, 12, 14 mm; ratcheting box end helpful For the mounting bolt you cannot get a socket squarely on from below. | Recommended | shop |
| Torque wrench 3/8 in drive, 10-80 ft-lb range Alternator bolts thread into aluminum brackets/block and must not be guessed at. | Required | shop |
| Digital multimeter Confirms the old alternator is bad (12.4-12.7 V off, 13.5-14.8 V running) and verifies the new one charges. | Recommended | shop |
| OBD-II scan tool Reads Honda body/powertrain codes Checks charging-system codes (e.g. P0562/P0563, B-codes for the battery sensor) before and after. | Recommended | shop |
| Wire brush / battery terminal cleaner Cleans the B+ ring terminal and battery posts so the new unit sees a good connection. | Consumables | shop |
| Dielectric grease Small tube Protects the B+ stud and the 4-pin regulator connector from corrosion. | Consumables | shop |
| Flashlight or headlamp LED The alternator sits in a dark pocket behind the right-side subframe area. | Required | shop |
| Alternator 1.5T (L15BE) or 2.0T (K20C4) specific โ match by VIN; 130-150 A depending on trim The replacement unit; 1.5T and 2.0T alternators are not interchangeable. | Parts | shop |
| Serpentine belt Engine-specific; check length by VIN Belt is off anyway and 60k+ mile belts crack; cheap insurance while access is open. | Parts | shop |
| Splash shield clips Honda-style plastic push rivets A few always break on removal. | Consumables | shop |
| Safety glasses and gloves Road grit and debris fall out of the wheel well and shield area. | Safety | shop |
1.5T (L15BE) and 2.0T (K20C4) both use 10 mm for the battery and B+ nut, 12 mm and 14 mm for the mounting bolts, and a 14 mm tensioner pulley bolt, but the alternator part numbers, amperage and belt lengths differ โ order by VIN. The 2.0T is more cramped, so expect to remove more of the right inner fender liner and use a swivel plus long extension. The Hybrid has no alternator and none of these fasteners apply.
| Alternator mounting bolt, M10 (main through-bolt) | approx. 33 ft-lb (44 Nm) โ verify in the service manual |
| Alternator mounting bolt, M8 (upper/bracket) | approx. 16 ft-lb (22 Nm) โ verify in the service manual |
| Alternator B+ output terminal nut | approx. 7 ft-lb (9.8 Nm) โ verify in the service manual; snug only, the stud strips easily |
| Belt tensioner pulley bolt (if disturbed) | verify in the service manual |
| Battery negative terminal nut | approx. 4 ft-lb (5.5 Nm) โ verify in the service manual |
| Front wheel lug nuts | 80 ft-lb (108 Nm) |
Socket sizes (10 mm battery/terminal, 12 mm and 14 mm mounting bolts, 14 mm tensioner, 19 mm lugs) are typical and reliable for the 10th-gen Accord, but the exact bolt mix and access route vary between the 1.5T and 2.0T โ verify torque values and bolt sizes against the Honda service information for your VIN before final tightening.
No. The Hybrid uses the MG1 motor-generator in its two-motor e-CVT plus a DC-DC converter to charge the 12 V battery. There is no belt-driven alternator to replace, so charging complaints are diagnosed as battery, converter or hybrid-system issues.
Not always, but it is worth it. Pulling the right front wheel (19 mm lugs) and the lower fender liner gives you a straight shot at the tensioner and the mounting bolts, and it is how the alternator comes out most easily.
The automatic tensioner pulley bolt takes a 14 mm socket. Use a long serpentine belt tool or a 1/2 in breaker bar for leverage and release the arm slowly when reseating the belt.
No battery registration or coding is required on the Accord. You will just need to reset the clock and, if the battery was disconnected long enough, re-initialize the power window and moonroof auto-up/down function by holding the switch at the end of travel.
