Differences within the 2022-2024 generation

Tool sizes are identical across the 1.5L turbo, 2.0L K20C2, and the 2.0L turbo K20C1 in the Type R: 19 mm lug nuts, 5x114.3, 80 ft-lb. The only practical differences are ride height and wheel size — Si (18 in) and Type R (19 in, 265/30 tires) sit lower and are easier to get under with a low-profile jack, and their performance tires are more likely to be directional, which restricts you to a same-side front-to-rear swap.

How the job goes

  1. Park on level ground, engine off, electronic parking brake ON, transmission in P (or in gear for the 6MT Si/Type R). Chock the wheels you are not lifting.
  2. Check and write down the cold pressure of each tire before you start, plus tread depth at each corner. Placard pressure is on the driver's door jamb — typically 33 psi front and rear on most trims; confirm your own label.
  3. Chalk each tire with its position (LF, RF, LR, RR).
  4. With all four wheels still on the ground, break each lug nut loose about a quarter turn using the 19 mm socket and breaker bar. Do not remove them yet.
  5. Locate the pinch-weld jack point behind the front wheel and ahead of the rear wheel — the 11th gen has a molded notch in the seam. Use a slotted jack pad and raise one corner (or one side) at a time, then set jack stands.
  6. Remove the lug nuts and pull the wheels. Set them on their sidewalls or on cardboard, not tread-down on grit.
  7. Wire-brush the hub face and hub centering flange. A very thin smear of anti-seize on the centering flange only prevents future stuck wheels; keep it off the studs, nuts, and the flat wheel mating surface.
  8. Rotate the tires: non-directional tires, use the rearward cross — fronts go straight back, rears cross to the opposite front. Directional tires (some Si and Type R fitments), swap front-to-rear on the same side only.
  9. Hand-thread all lug nuts, then snug them in a star pattern with the wheel just off the ground to center the wheel on the hub.
  10. Lower the car so the tire is loaded but not carrying full weight, then torque the nuts to 80 ft-lb (108 Nm) in a star/criss-cross pattern. Go around twice.
  11. Lower fully, remove chocks, and set all four tires to the door-jamb pressure.
  12. Recalibrate the TPMS: press the HOME button on the infotainment screen, go to Settings > Vehicle > TPMS Calibration > Calibrate. Confirm the message. The system relearns over the next several miles of normal driving.
  13. Retorque the lug nuts after roughly 50-100 miles.
