On the 11th-gen Civic the alternator is low on the front-passenger side of the engine, fed by a single serpentine belt with an automatic spring tensioner. There are no adjuster bolts to fight with, but access from the top is poor, so plan on pulling the passenger front wheel and the inner fender splash shield and doing most of the work through the wheel well. The fastener set is simple: 10 mm for the battery and B+ terminals, 12 and 14 mm for the mounting bolts, 14 mm on the tensioner, 19 mm lug nuts.
The two things people get wrong are the B+ stud nut and the belt. That nut takes only a few Nm — crank it down with a ratchet and you will twist the stud out of a brand-new alternator. Fastener sizes are the same on the 2.0L K20C2 and the 1.5L turbo (L15B7/L15CA in Si), but the alternators themselves differ in output rating, pulley size and connector, so order by VIN. The 1.5T is more crowded around the turbo and intercooler piping, so removal through the wheel well is usually the only practical route; the 2.0L sometimes allows the unit to come up past the intake side. Si and Type R cars use unique belt routing decals — photograph the belt before removal.
