On the DT-generation Ram 1500, the first question is not which socket, it's whether you even have an alternator. Every 3.6 Pentastar and most 5.7 Hemi trucks in this generation use eTorque, where a 48-volt belt-starter-generator takes the alternator's place, spins on its own belt, and feeds a 48V lithium pack under the rear seat. Non-eTorque 5.7 trucks and the 3.0 EcoDiesel use a normal 12V alternator, and those jobs are far closer to a traditional swap.
Mechanically it is a belt, a B+ nut, a connector and two or three bolts. What eats the time is access — the coolant hoses, charge-air tube and harness brackets crowding the passenger side, and the rear mounting bolt you can only reach with a long extension and a wobble. The mistake people make most often is torquing the B+ stud nut by feel and spinning the stud, or buying a 12V alternator for an eTorque truck because the listing didn't specify.

Fastener sizes (10 mm battery, 13 mm B+, 13/15/18 mm mounting and bracket bolts) are typical for DT engines but vary by build date and by eTorque versus non-eTorque, so confirm on your truck before ordering tools, and take all torque values from the FCA service manual for your exact engine.
Open the hood and look for orange cables on the passenger side of the engine. Orange cable and a badge reading eTorque means a 48V belt-starter-generator; a plain black cable on a stud means a conventional 12V alternator. All DT 3.6 Pentastars are eTorque; the 5.7 came both ways depending on year and trim, and the 3.0 EcoDiesel is conventional.
