The XA50 RAV4 is one of the easier modern Toyotas to change oil on, with one catch: the A25A engine uses a cartridge filter in a plastic housing on the front of the block, not a spin-on can. That means a 64 mm 14-flute cap socket and the little drain-plug tool that lets the housing empty into the oil pan before you open it. Buy both once and the job is a 25-minute chore forever after.
The thing people get wrong is the filter cap. It's plastic, it takes 18 ft-lb, and it comes with two O-rings in the filter kit that both need replacing. Crank it down with a strap wrench or reuse the flattened old O-ring and you get a slow drip that shows up as a stain on your driveway a week later. The other common mistake is skipping the housing drain step, which turns into hot oil running down your arm.

All XA50 RAV4s — 2.5 gas (A25A-FKS), Hybrid (A25A-FXS) and RAV4 Prime — use the same 14 mm hex drain plug, the same 64 mm 14-flute cartridge filter cap and 0W-20 oil. Only the fill quantity differs: about 4.5 L (4.8 qt) for the gas engine versus about 4.4 L (4.6 qt) for the hybrid/Prime. Undertray fastener count varies slightly between FWD and AWD trims but they're all 10 mm bolts and push clips.

The 14 mm drain plug, 64 mm 14-flute cap socket, 0W-20 spec and 04152-YZZA1 filter kit are correct for all XA50 RAV4s including the hybrid and Prime; double-check your exact oil capacity and the housing drain plug torque against your owner's manual, as capacity is listed slightly differently between gas and hybrid models.

The 2.5L gas engine takes about 4.8 US quarts (4.5 litres) with a filter change; the hybrid and Prime take about 4.6 US quarts (4.4 litres). Add 4 litres first, then top up by dipstick to the upper mark.
0W-20 full synthetic, API SP / ILSAC GF-6. 0W-16 is specified on some other Toyota 2.5 applications but not on the RAV4's A25A-FKS or A25A-FXS.
Turn the ignition on (engine off), use the steering-wheel arrows to bring up the trip/maintenance screen in the instrument cluster, then press and hold the display reset button until the oil change indicator clears. On cars with the larger touchscreen you can also do it under Settings > Vehicle Settings > Maintenance.
